6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
On Thursday, September 28th, join the American Helicopter Society Southwest Chapter to hear Bell Helicopter Manager of Continued Operational Safety Tony Randall, Sikorsky Aircraft Sr. Manager Fleet Safety, FAA Continued Operational Safety Specialist Scott Tyrrell and Airbus Helicopters Director of Aviation Safety Manny Figlia present “Accidents, Technology, Data and the United States Helicopter Safety Team.”
While in a continual decline, the accident rate for helicopter operations remains too high. The data shows human factors issue to be the driver in the large majority of accidents and the OEM has a role to play in helping the operators eliminate the opportunity for these errors. From moving map indications, terrain or traffic awareness systems, auto-pilot features, synthetic vision, up to date weather presentations, and other awareness builders, to proactive and reactive wire strike systems and onboard crash resistant recording devices, the industry has increasingly been more deliberate in the development of systems to make helicopter aviation safer. Please join us as the OEMs, USHST and the regulators provide some insight into what each is doing to assist in driving down accidents. This discussion will include accident data, current collaborative industry efforts, and OEM efforts in human factors and airworthiness design of aircraft and aircraft systems to address accident cause factors.
