a VFS Paper Encore Presentation by

Friday October 17th @ 5:30 PM
Full Scale Stop-fold Transition Demonstration on a High-Speed Test Track

Future military missions need an aircraft that can hover and fly transonic cruise. Bell has made progress in developing scalable high-speed VTOL (HSVTOL) technology with the stop-fold rotor that can hover effectively and then “disappear” during high-speed cruise. Troy will elaborate on the recent full-scale high-speed track testing performed on the stop-fold rotor configuration and its transition from prop-to-jet and jet-to-prop modes onboard the Bell designed Track-Guided Test Vehicle.

Troy Schank is a Staff Engineer and has been the technical lead of Bell’s High Speed VTOL Stop-fold technology development efforts since 2015. Troy received a Ph.D. from the Georgia Tech Institute of Technology in 2008.
